  • OBJECTIVES/OBJECTIVES OF THE GARDEN DEPARTMENT

  • Brief History of Garden Department:

The Pillar Garden was built in 1884 at Bhavnagar State before independence. Maharaja Sir Takhtsinhji Saheb planted trees near MEW West and designated this garden as a public garden on 23rd Jan. It was launched in 1884. In 1960, a statue of Sardarshree was installed in this garden and the garden was named after Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. The Garden Department has about 60 small and large circles/gardens. Some of them have been developed and adopted through public participation. The beauty of the city is increased by planting trees in various road-dividers of the city. As the city continues to develop, the gardens also have to be developed along with it.

  • Garden Department Operations:
    • Development of parks/circles and road dividers in Bhavnagar city is being undertaken through public participation and circles/gardens are being adopted. In this way other road dividers, circles Vs. Institutions, Ltd. Companies, Trusts are adopted.
    • On the main road in the city, Muni. Planting of trees in open lands or common plots in schools and with the support of public and private organizations and the maintenance of tree plantations with Triguard from the grants allocated by Hon'ble MLAs and Municipal Servants. Avanwa trees are planted in triangles near gardens/circles in Bhavnagar city.
    • With the aim of creating environmental awareness among the people and making Bhavnagar city greener, saplings of various species are being distributed free of cost.
    • Different types of benches are placed as suggested from the grants allocated by Hon. MLAs, MPs and Municipal servants.
    • The garden department has moved the trees from their original place in the road widening work of the municipality and transplanted them for the purpose of saving them and as soon as the trees grow, the trees get useful information and the environment is clean.
