- The main responsibility of the filter department is withdraw of raw water from different reservoirs and purify it at the filtration plant to distribute clean and adequate water supply to Bhavnagar city.
- Shetrunji dam is the main source of drinking water for Bhavnagar city which is approximately 47 km away from bhavnagar. Water is conveyed to Bhavnagar city through pumping station based on Setrunji Dam Canal from pumping station through pipeline. Further water is obtained from Budhel sump at Tarsamiya filter plant through Mahi-Periage water pipe line. The Takhteshwar filter plant in Bhavnagar city was built in the year 1932 with a water purification capacity of 42 ml per day. While Chitra Filter Plant was built by G.W.S.S.B. in 1994 and assigned to the Municipal Corporation. which has 18 ml per day capacity and a new chitra filter plant of 25 mld has been commissioned in year …….., old filter plant of 30 ml per day capacity and new filter plant of 20 ml per day capacity has been commissioned at Tarsamiya filter plant. Old and new filter plant of 15 ml per day capacity and 15 ml per day capacity are operational at Neelambag Filter Plant. A filter plant with a capacity of 5 ml per day has been commissioned at Nari village. as per above with a total capacity of 170 ml per day for raw water filtration in Bhavnagar city.
- About 95 to 100 ml per day from Shetrunji dam And approximately 18 to 20 ml from Gaurishankar lake. And about 70 to 75 ml from Tarsamiya Filtration Plant through Mahipariage Budhel. Raw water is obtained. In all the above filter plants, adequate efforts are made to deliver clean water to the city by disinfecting the water by filtration and chlorination. Thus, the average for Bhavnagar city is 170 ml. Every day clean water is distributed in the city through all the filter plants and pumping stations. Besides, the required amount of raw water is taken to the Takhteshwar filter plant through a storage tank having a capacity of 45 MLD at Vidyanagar. ESR, MLR, HLR, GLR at Takhteshwar Filter Plant, Diamond Square ESR and Pumping, Vardhaman and DilBahar ESR, Chitra ESR, Adhewada GSR, Balyoginagar ESR, prabhudas talav ESR,GETCO ESR etc. which are supplying water with sufficient pressure to those areas Filter plant and pumping as well as chlorination and water purification of the swimming bath at Nilambagh and Sardarnagar are done by the filter department. Besides, water distribution is done by tankers within the city limits as per the instructions of Hon. Corporators and Water Works Department
